June 21 '09

Hope you all enjoyed this summer solstice, longest day of the year. Sorry have not posted an update sooner... We weren't able to work it out to be at the Winston Farmer's Market there on Tuesdays, so I do apologize for those of you who may have stopped by expecting to see us there. And if you haven't stopped by there, do so anyway. There's a bunch of nice folks there who have some really nice plants, produce and baked goods. Be sure to say hi to our friends Anthony and Sandee at Oh My Gato! Farms. (www.ohmygato.com) They have beautiful produce grown organically. They are all working hard to start something great there, and we must support our local farmers!

We have been enjoying the farmer's market in Drain, NUFARM. So many nice people and wow! all the beautiful produce coming out. I've been introduced to garlic scape for the first time in my life just last week by Suzie and Asinete from BIG LICK FARM. Brian sauteed it with some olive oil until tender, and just a sprinkle of salt, and oh, heaven! I found out that one can only get this for about two weeks in June when the stalks come out of the garlic. Rich and Kate from HAYHURST FARM had some today at NUFARM, and I couldn't resist. Not only that, but big beautiful lettuces, baby artichokes, fennel, peas.... Oregon living is fun.

Okay, okay, back to work, -sigh-. THIS Tuesday June 23 officially starts the MUSIC ON THE HALF SHELL season. Get details at www.halfshell.org. We'll be there. See you there!
